About the Mid Manhattan History Department
The Mid-Manhattan History Department holds one of the largest subject collections located within the branch libraries of the New York Public Library. Housed on the 5th floor of the Mid-Manhattan Library (455 5th Ave. New York, NY 10016), the History Department offers over 100,000 books, videos and DVDs all available for public lending. While “History” stands prominent in our department’s name, we collect in several subjects related to the humanities, including:
- American and World History
- Philosophy
- Archeology
- Politics and Elections
- Philosophy
- Geography
- Foreign Relations
Hours
The Mid-Manhattan History Department operates on the same schedule as the Mid-Manhattan Library.
Monday – Wednesday : 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Thursday – Saturday : 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Our department is closed on Sundays and all major holidays.
